Alcohol- love it or leave it

If you are able to drink alcohol and stay in control of your actions and remember everything you did the night before the next  morning, then love it. If you drink alcohol and get a black out and you do not know what your own name is or you can not even see if you still dressed or not, then leave it!.

The advertising of alcohol and the marketing of alcoholic products inluding peer pressure and family influence. All play a part in the level of alcohol consumption.

Young people and alcohol

Young people who start drinking alcohol and experiment with alcoholic products at a young age, it is mostly because of the media influence which it has on the youth. The media has a huge effect on the consumption and the usage of alcohol.
Fact is that South Africans consumes the most beer then anyother African country, with an average of 59.2 litres of beer consumed per person annually.
Some people say that we have welcomed alcohol in our cultures way back in the days hence we have umqombothi (African beer).

Do we blame the large amount of alcohol consumption on media or is it just for the love of alcohol? What is your say?

  1. I think it is a bit of both but media plays a bigger role because they design their adverts in a way that makes alcohol consumption cool and they also give people the idea that they can't have fun at parties without alcohol. But at the end of the day people need to learn to make their on decision regardless of what media tells and just use it as a guide and not a decision maker.

  2. I have to say partying and alcohol go together however when drinking people should have a limit and not let their digity down with the alcohol. Media does not entirely influence people's decision making so personally I do not blame the media for alcohol consumption

  3. People should drink responsibly. The media does not increase alcohol consumption, whether alcohol is being advertised in the media or not, youth will still consume it.

  4. I think media has an influence on the way the youth consumes alcohol, by this i mean: when alcohol brands are advertised they protray it like the people are having fun and enjoying themselves so the youth adapts to what they see on tv commercials, movies and magazines then they try it.

  5. I think it mostly has to do with the media. E.g. when approaching December, there ll be endless ads based on alcohol. Looking at the stats of companies that sell alcohol, december is actually a peak time for them.

    1. The media knows very well that December time is when people money so that's why they market so much then.

  6. Alcohol is sort of a recreational activity, although it has been introduced to us by media, the message it sends out does not influence people to binge drink.

  7. It is for the love of alcohol, for example there is a large amount of smokers whereas cigarette adverts were banned years ago so its the love, whether they are advertised or not people will still drink hard even.
